FA Vase Semi Final 2nd Leg
NANTWICH TOWN 4 CAMMELL LAIRD 0
LAIRDS' VASE DREAM IS OVER
Well, against all odds, it will be Nantwich
Town flying the North West Counties
flag at Birmingham City next month and
deservedly so!.
With a 1-0 deficit to chase after the
first leg at Kirklands, Lairds were
confident they could get an early goal
and get Nantwich worried.
That early goal so very nearly came
after 14 minutes when a Stuart Wright
piledriver slammed into the upright
and out to safety.
Buoyed by this Lairds kept up the pressure
but Nantwich's game plan of crowding
Lairds out was working, nothing could
get through.
Then it all went sour when Kinsey put
The Dabbers up in the 19th minute. The
killer punch came just before the break
with a second from Beasley.
Lairds, despite the presence of the
influential Carl Clampitt returning
from injury, found it difficult to regroup
and Nantwich went on to get a further
brace in the second half to take the
tie 5-0 on aggregate.
So, it was nice while it lasted!! Whilst
Nantwich and their supporters make hasty
preparations for Birmingham (with, it
must be said the best wishes from Lairds!)
Lairds now have to launch Operation
Unibond and win the many games in hand
we have on Skelmersdale and Alsager.
After all, if the Lairds regain our
form and win the League title, we won't
be worrying about the Vase next year,
It'll be the FA Trophy!!! |
